There is a new member process for those who wish to become a member of Sigma Pi. Our new member process is geared toward three things: making sure our new members get to know each of the brothers, teaching our new members about what Sigma Pi stands for, and introducing new members to the way that the Chapter works. The New Member period usually last 6-8 weeks and upon successful completion new members are eligible to become initiated members of Sigma Pi Fraternity International.
Q: Is there a new member (pledge) process?
Since there are so many amazing things that members of Sigma Pi get to participate in there is a cost involved. However, you’ll probably be surprised by how affordable being a member of Sigma Pi can be.
During the first semester, new members pay two fees. The first is the pledge fee which cost $150. The second is the initiation fee which cost $350. Now I know what you’re thinking, that seems like a lot of money, however, these are one time fees. Many other fraternity members have to pay fees to their headquarters every semester, but as a Sigma Pi these fees are only paid once upon initiation.
After your first semester, once you’re a fully initiated member, all you have to pay is Chapter dues. Our dues are consistently around $300 per semester. In fact, last semester our dues were only $285. This money goes toward everything that the fraternity does, from socials and service projects to brotherhood events and formals. When you pay dues it’s like pre-paying for all of the things you’ll get to do as a member throughout the semester.
Q: How much does it cost? Do I have to pay every year?

Q: Where does my money go?
The money that our members pay in dues every semester goes toward everything that the Chapter does. All of the things that we do, from brotherhood events like the YMCA lock-in to projects like our Luau, get paid for using money from dues. The socials we hold with sororities on campus and the intramural sports our members play are all paid for by our dues. Like we said before, paying dues is like pre-paying for all of the things we do throughout the semester.
Q: Do you have a chapter house?
Yes. We have an amazing house located just off of Lake Michigan Drive on 48th Avenue. Up to 24 members live can live at the house at once and we love every second of it. Plus, we have an enormous Chapter room we utilize for everything from brotherhood events and socials to parties and study tables. Even the members that don’t live at the house have full access to the Chapter Room whenever they want to use it.
Q: Do you haze your new members?
Absolutely not. We don’t condone hazing in any way. Our new members are always treated with the utmost respect. We want our new members to be comfortable throughout their new member period. Furthermore, we want to be able to call our new members brothers at the end of their new member period and hazing them isn’t something that fits within our values.
